Do Sex Toys Really Make People Happier? Here's What Research Found

Most people buy sex toys because they fancy trying something new or just want a bit of fun. But does using them actually make you happier with your sex life?

Well, it turns out someone's actually done some research on this.

Nearly 12,000 people from six European countries, including the UK, took part in a survey about sex toys. And one of the things they found was that people who used them were generally more satisfied with their sex lives.

What Did the Survey Find?

The study, published in The Journal of Sex Research, involved 11,944 people from the UK, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and France.

One of the things researchers discovered was that more than half of those surveyed owned or had previously owned a sex toy.

That's quite a lot of people!

Dildos and vibrators were the most commonly owned, although there were plenty of other types of toys mentioned too.

But what made the study interesting wasn't just how many people owned them. Researchers also looked at whether using sex toys had any connection with how satisfied people were with their sex lives and their lives in general.

And it turns out there was a connection.

People who owned and used sex toys generally reported higher levels of sexual satisfaction and life satisfaction.

That's not to say the toys themselves made people happier, but it's an interesting finding all the same.

What About Couples?

The study also found that people who used sex toys with their partner more often were generally happier with their relationships.

There's sometimes this idea that sex toys are mainly for people who are single, but that's not the case.

Lots of couples enjoy using toys together. It might be something they've done for years, or maybe they're just curious about trying something new.

Even sex machines, which people often think of as something you'd use alone, can be enjoyed with a partner.

Sex Toys Have Come a Long Way

A few years ago, most people probably wouldn't have known much about sex machines, let alone considered owning one.

But there's so much more choice these days than just the usual vibrators and dildos.

Sex machines are a good example of how things have moved on.

Instead of having to move a dildo yourself, the machine does it for you. You can choose the speed, and depending on the model, adjust the stroke length and angle too.

That's one of the best things about a sex machine. You can get comfortable, find a setting you like and let the machine do the work.

Our range of Thumpr™ sex machines includes smaller compact models as well as larger machines with more adjustment options.

So whether you're short on space or have room for something bigger, there's plenty of choice.

It's Nice to Have a Choice

Anyone who's owned a few sex toys will know that you don't always fancy using the same one.

You might love a particular dildo but still want to try something with a different shape, size or texture.

And that's one of the nice things about having a sex machine. You can change the dildo rather than having to buy a completely different machine.

We've got a wide range of Clic Loc™ dildos, from realistic designs to curved and textured styles, along with plenty of different sizes.

They click straight into compatible Thumpr™ sex machines, so there's no need for a separate adaptor.

And if you've already got a favourite Vac-U-Lock™ dildo or suction cup dildo, you may be able to use that too.

Our range of Thumpr™ Clic Loc™ attachments and accessories includes Vac-U-Lock™ compatible adaptors, suction cup dildo holders, clamps and extension rods, all designed for use with compatible Thumpr™ sex machines.

It's especially handy if you've already got a few toys at home and would rather make use of what you've got than buy everything again.

Why Are Sex Toys So Popular?

With more than half the people in the survey saying they'd owned a sex toy, it's clear just how popular they are.

And there's so much choice these days, from smaller handheld vibrators to fully adjustable sex machines that do all the work for you.

Some people find a favourite toy and stick with it for years, while others love trying different things. That's part of the appeal, there's always something new to try.

So, Do Sex Toys Really Make People Happier?

Well, the research suggests there could be something in it, although everyone's different.

And if you fancy trying something a bit different yourself, why not give a sex machine a go?

With adjustable speeds, different stroke lengths and a whole range of dildos to choose from, there's plenty to experiment with. Whether you're using it alone or with a partner, you can find what works for you.

About the research: This blog is based on a 2022 survey of nearly 12,000 people across six European countries, published in The Journal of Sex Research. The survey was commissioned by a sex-toy retailer and looked at sex toys in general, rather than sex machines specifically.
